9 years old, and only with me there. They must be tall enough to hover over the burners, not below them. Never allow them to stand on a chair or step to cook.

I tried to make fried bananas when I was 14, when my mom wasn’t home. The oil caught on fire and I didn’t know what to do. I picked up the skillet by the handle and ran to the front door with it. I spilled burning oil right next to the bookcase and on the couch. Luckily, it was just a small amount by the bookcase, and it didn’t catch any books on fire. But it melted a hole about 2 feet across, on the back of the couch. I was in big trouble over that one, and it could have been much, much worse.
But for easier stuff, like scrambled eggs*, I was fine when I was about 12 or 13.
My wife and I don’t have kids, but if we did I would probably have a difficult time trusting them to cook oily foods on their own.
* In my house we didn’t use oil for scrambled eggs, just milk + eggs in the pan

Now im a kid and the answer that i give will be from a different point of view since you are asking parents and adults. Maturity as a big role in this type of situation and so is responsibility. When a kid grows into a teenager these attributes hide throughout thier teenage years and usually dont appear till their about 26 but in some cases a teenager may be way more responsible and mature than a 26 year old male or female so the age that is usually safe to let a child use a stove and oven is 13 to 18 if they are responsible and mature that is the age my aunts let thier sons and daughters use the hot stove and oven. Using the oven and stove also build maturity since it is such a big responsibillity.

That depends if they are home alone. Obliviously, a child at age 6 should not use the oven home alone. If it is home alone, I’d say 10+, If not and an adult is watching, 8 or so

My daughter probably put her first pan of cookies or brownies in the oven at about age 9. With pot holders. And I removed the finished product b/c she was a littel apphrehensive. She’s 12 now, and has no trouble whatsoever.
Both my kids (12 and 10) use the gas stove to scramble eggs, make grilled cheese, mac & cheese from a box, heat up soup, etc. and have been since they were about 8-9.
It all depends on the kid. If you know your kid is rowdy and doesn’t want to be told how to properly and safely do something, wait awhile. If your kid is responsible and ASKS to do it, show them the proper way and then let the do it.

Age doesn’t matter, it is their attitude toward cooking that you need to judge them on, and to begin with they should be under supervision.
When you are comfortable that they are capable, then let them go it alone.
